CEI-IUL will host an International Studies Seminar about ‘Water, Power, and Politics in International Studies’, held by Ana Elisa Cascão, on November 23, at 18h, in Auditorium J.J. Laginha (building Sedas Nunes, ISCTE-IUL).
About the Seminar
This seminar will explore how Water, in particular internationally shared rivers, features in the literature of International Studies. For the past three decades much has been written about Water wars, transboundary cooperation, large-scale dams and climate change and how this affects the political relations between countries, namely in hotspot regions such as the Middle East and Africa. This seminar aims at understanding how Water is a power resource in the contemporary international relations, and influence regional and global political processes.
About the speaker
Ana Elisa Cascão is a Research Associate at CEI-IUL. She is a programme manager at the Transboundary Water Management Unit – Stockholm International Water Institute (SIWI) as well as a political scientist with expertise in Hydropolitics in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. She holds a PhD on the “Political Economy of water resources management and allocation in the Nile River Basin” (King’s College, London).
