25 MAR | Conference: Islam, Sexuality and the War on Terror

Don’t miss another session of the School of Sociology and Public Policy’s (ESPP) Doctoral Conferences on March 25 with guest speaker Shaireen Rasheed (Long Island University).

The conference, “Islam, Sexuality and the War on Terror”, is organized in the context of the PhD programme in Political Science, in collaboration with ESPP, CEI-IUL, and CIES-IUL. The event will be commented by CEI-IUL researcher Giulia Daniele and will take place in Auditorium 0NE01 – Paquete de Oliveira (Sedas Nunes Building, ISCTE-IUL) at 6 p.m.

About the speaker:

Shaireen Rasheed is Professor in Philosophy and Education and Issues of Race, Class, Gender, Sexuality and Social Justice at Long Island University. She is also the direct of the Interdisciplinary Doctoral Program in Education at Long Island University at the Post Campus with satellite campuses in Hudson and Brooklyn. Dr Rasheed was a Fulbright visiting professor at the University of Salzburg working on issues of migration , inclusion and pedagogy; as well as visiting scholar in the Department of Philosophy at Columbia University; and visiting fellow at the Harvard Divinity School, New York University and the Columbia Law School. Dr Rasheed’s expertise is in anti-racist and bias training citizens. Most recently she co-authored a special issue in the Studies in Philosophy and Education Journal, “Deconstructing Privilege in the Classroom: Teaching as a Racialized Activity.”
