Summer Course | Activisms in Africa: State of the Art, Methods, Contexts and Cases

Applications are open for the summer course ” Activisms in Africa: State of the Art, Methods, Contexts and Cases”. The course will be held between September 3 and 7 and will be coordinated by Ana Lúcia SáEduardo Costa Dias, researchers from CEI-IUL. It will have a duration of 20 hours, running from Monday to Friday between 2pm and 7:00pm . The program is organized by Center for International Studies (CEI-IUL) and the Institute for Public and Social Policies of ISCTE-IUL. It is aimed at university students, activists, non-governmental organisations, diplomats, and professionals that want to know more about the dynamics of the social movements in African activism as well as their potential for the African continent.

Today many African countries live in a context where society is constantly confronted by the state or private corporations. In this situation, civil society organizations become a key player in the political chess of the continent. Working in diverse fields and adopting non-traditional forms of organization, activists create new challenges to their analysis and interpretation. Following the enormous success of the International Conference on Activism in Africa, organized by the CEI-IUL in January 2017, this course aims to train, inform, reflect and debate on research methods to analyze the various forms of activism in Africa.
