ERC GRANT | Yonatan N. Gez – Development Initiatives in East Africa
Yonatan N. Gez, a researcher at CEI-Iscte, won the funding awarded by the European Research Council (ERC).
The award of 397 grants worth €619 million to early career scientists (ERC Starting Grants) was announced today. In this competition the applications of five scientists were selected for funding, who will develop their ambitious projects in Portugal, in several areas of knowledge, with a total funding volume of around 8.3 million euros. One candidate awarded this prestigious funding is Yonatan N. Gez, a researcher at CEI-Iscte in the area of socio anthropology of development with a focus on East Africa.
Gez has now been awarded €1.5 million in funding to develop the project and establish a research team to study the legacies and long-term impact for local communities following projects delivered by non-governmental development organisations (NGDOs), faith-based organisations or private investors. The work will be done in Kenya, Tanzania and Mozambique.
