8 FEB | Webinar: The Political Opposition in the GDR and Poland
On 8 February at 6.00 PM (7.00 PM CET | 8.00 PM EET) join the NOWALL project partners for the webinar “The Political Opposition in the GDR and Poland: Solidarność and Political Opposition before the Fall of the Wall”.
This event brings together scholars and activists to debate and give insight on how political resistance in East Germany and neighbouring Poland during the Cold War succeeded in making a change leading to freedom and respect of human rights.
Idesbald Goddeeris (KU Leuven University) and Christie Miedema (University of Amsterdam) will present their research on social movements from both sides of the “Iron Curtain” and the debate will be moderated by Bernd Rother, Senior Fellow of the Willy Brandt Foundation. This will be an excellent opportunity to debate Europe’s contemporary history and the role of European activism on human rights in the fall of the Berlin Wall and beyond.
